Cape Codders have a love/hate relationship with oak trees. Oaks are beautiful trees, provide homes and food for wild creatures, and offer cooling shade during the Cape’s hot summers. But they drop acorns all over our decks – and the falling leaves are never-ending!
One person who loves oaks is Tim Boland. The Executive Director of the Polly Hill Arboretum on Martha’s Vineyard, Tim is a botanist who specializes in oaks. Concentrating on the oaks of eastern North America, he’ll discuss their evolutionary history, their importance to other plants and animals, and the challenges they face in today’s rapidly changing climate.
The first 75 people to register will receive a free white or swamp oak seedling!
