Here are a few things to help you find your way around the studio.

CD Players:

 

To toggle between single and continuous play:

  1. Hit the Shift key to activate the functions in the blue labels
  2. Push the Play Mode button (also labeled ‘Call’) to cycle through PGM (program mode), RANDOM (shuffle play mode), S (single play mode), and blank (continuous play mode)

Single play mode will stop playing after each track. Continuous play will play the CD through to the end.  Program mode and Random mode should not be used.

CD will not eject when player is in pause mode.

Make sure repeat mode is not engaged (via blue shift functions).

To select a track:

1. Hit the pause button to put the player in Pause Mode.
2. Use the arrow buttons to advance to the desired track
3. Track number and track duration will appear on the screen.

Record players:

 
 

  1. Turn the turntable on by rotating the circular on/off switch clockwise a click
  2. Get it up to speed by pressing the start/stop button (choose 33 or 45 rpm)
  3. Put the turntable channel on the console in “Cue” mode (make sure cue volume is up)
  4. Lower the tone arm to a spot just before the start of the song you want.
  5. When you hear the first note of the song you want, press Stop on the turntable
  6. With your hand, slowly spin the turntable in reverse back to the quiet spot just before the start of the song
  7. The song is now cued up and ready to roll. The “On” button on the channel on the console will start the turntable remotely.

Lock the back (and front) door to the office:

1. Find the Allen wrench key on the ledge above the coffee maker by the back door.
2. Insert wrench in small slot on the push bar.
3. While holding the push bar in, turn the wrench a quarter turn until you hear and feel it click.
4. Push bar should pop out to the locked position when you let go.
5. Put the key back on the ledge where you found it.
6. The key for the front door sits on the fire alarm to the left of the door at the bottom of the stairs.

Record a show to a USB drive:

 

1. Find the USB recorder. It’s the second Denon unit from the top of the rack closest to the windows.
2. Insert your USB drive into the slot at the top left of the face of the recorder. The slot is labeled “Drive”
3. Once the machine recognizes your drive, push “REC”. The machine is now in ‘pause’ mode.
4. Push “REC” a second time to start the recording.
5. When you’re done, push “STOP”
6. Wait 2 seconds for the file to save to the drive. Take the drive out of the machine and go.

 

Put callers on the air:


 1. Find the channel for “PHONE 1” on the console.
2. Prep the guest by speaking with them off-air. Press the button in the left column on the phone of the line you want to use. Let the guest know that you’re about to put them on the air.
3. Press the button on the phone in the right hand column for the line you want to put on the air. The “ON AIR” icon will light up on the phone.
4. You can hang up the handset for the phone. The call will not disconnect once it’s ON AIR
5. Put on your headphones.
6. Turn on your microphone to go live on the air.
7. Turn on the channel for “PHONE 1” and bring the slider up to volume.
8. Speak to the guest on the phone using your broadcast microphone. You will hear them through your headphones.
9. When the call is over, turn off the channel for PHONE 1 and bring down the slider.

Using the VLC media player:

 

Record an interview on Zoom:

1. Go to zoom.us
2. Open a free account, if you don’t have one already. Calls are limited to 40 minutes in a free account. Pay for a Pro account for unlimited time.
3. Click on “Schedule” in the top navigation bar
4. Give your meeting a name and a time. Click “Save”
     Zoom will warn you that you haven’t added any invitees. That’s fine – click “Save” again
5. Copy the invite link and send it to your guest.
6. Start the meeting by clicking on that link whenever you’re ready – it doesn’t matter when you scheduled it for
7. Once the Zoom window is open and the meeting has begun, click “Record” in the bottom of the window.
8. When the interview is over, you can stop the recording by hitting the button at the bottom of the window or simply end the meeting.
9. The recording will be automatically saved in a Zoom folder created in your Documents folder.
10. The audio file will be in m4a format. You can send that to matty@womr.org to convert it to an mp3 for editing.
