Unitarian Church of Barnstable Hosts August Stand Out and Cello Vigil for Racial Justice
August 20 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
On Friday, August 20th, the Unitarian Church of Barnstable will host a Stand Out and Cello Vigil for Racial Justice. Cellist Lisa Gross will perform in memory of Elijah McClain who died August 30, 2019 after being detained by police in Aurora, Colorado. Three officers restrained Elijah using a “carotid hold.” Following nationwide protests over the killings of Elijah McClain, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor at the hands of police officers, The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021 now bans law enforcement from using chokeholds, carotid holds, and racial, religious or discriminatory profiling.
During each monthly Stand Out for Racial Justice, we work to end racial discrimination and injustice and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives. All participants are invited to bring signs for racial justice.
The event will take place from 5:00-6:00 pm on the front lawn of UCB at 3330 Main St (Route 6A), Barnstable, MA (weather permitting).
Parking is available at the Unitarian Church of Barnstable. Next month’s Stand Out will be Friday, September 17th. For more information, contact the Unitarian Church of Barnstable: firstname.lastname@example.org.
