For the month of February 2019, the Brewster Ladies’ Library is pleased to present an art show by the Latham School.
Latham Centers compassionately and creatively helps children and adults with complex special needs, including Prader-Willi syndrome, to lead meaningful, abundant lives. The Children’s Program uses art, among many other activities, to enrich the lives of the children in Latham’s care. Students make artistic pieces for many reasons, all with the goal of assisting individuals to lead meaningful, abundant lives. In clinical work, some of the students use art therapy to explore their needs and desires. Art is also a great way for the students to express themselves, giving them an opportunity to make something unique and to succeed in creating an item that they can be proud of. Many of the students choose to make art as entertainment, or use it as a coping skill to keep themselves centered and in the moment.
We will feature the art of Latham students, sometimes made independently, and sometimes with the help of staff members. There will be pictures, paintings, and posters.
The public is invited to meet the artists at a reception at the Library on Saturday, February 16th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
This exhibit is sponsored by the Brewster Ladies’ Library. Please call the Library at (508) 896-3913 before coming, due to the exhibition room sometimes being in use for a program and not open for viewing.
