April 8, 2020 @ 6:00 pm

Directed by John Crowley, starring Saoirse Ronan, Emory Cohen, Domhnall Gleeson.

BROOKLYN tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother’s home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past, and Eilis must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.

In the tradition of the Hall’s popular, long running off-season series “Food On Film” (on hiatus for 2020), “Soup & Cinema” will celebrate film and community by pairing engaging entertainment with an intimate, cozy and communal dining experience, all for a low cost to attendees. Event menus will consist of a hearty and delicious house-made soup, locally baked bread, and dessert. Curated by Managing Director Vanessa Downing, the movie selections are four award-winning titles from the last decade. The series tagline “Let’s Go There” references an overarching theme in all of the films: Setting and atmosphere play distinct roles in the storytelling of each film, beautifully immersing audiences in place and time.
