“CG36500 and the Rescue of the SS Pendleton in 1952”

July 25, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

The restored Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat 36500 was used in February 1952 to rescue 32 men from the stern half of the broken tanker SS Pendleton. There were 36 people on the 36-foot boat and Disney made a movie of the event called “The Finest Hours” starring Chris Pine. Richard has been involved in the upkeep of the boat for over 15 years. He heard the Coast Guard radio traffic in Chatham during the event when he had just turned 12. This chapter in history has clearly been a life influence! He is a Retired Navy Medical Service Corps officer and has lived in Eastham for 25 years.

A donation of $5 or more is greatly appreciated!
