SUMMARY:An Afternoon with Joe Marchio – Organ\, Community & Giving Back
DESCRIPTION:Experience the artistry of Cape Symphony’s Assistant Conductor\, Joe Marchio\, as he takes the stage on the magnificent Casavant Frères pipe organ at the First Congregational Church of Chatham. Known for his warmth\, humor\, and insight as a speaker and conductor\, Joe now steps into the spotlight as a performer\, bringing the organ to life in an unforgettable concert. \nThe program will feature iconic organ masterworks including J.S. Bach’s thrilling “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor” and Charles Ives’ playful “Variations on America.” Joe will also be joined by special guest Sarah Marchio on bagpipes for the stirring audience favorite\, “Highland Cathedral\,” along with one additional selection to be announced. \nAbout the Organ\nThe organ at First Congregational Church is itself a star of the show. Built in 1972 by the renowned Casavant Frères Organ Company of Quebec\, the instrument was carefully designed to both support choral and congregational singing and to serve as a recital-quality organ for visiting artists. With 21 hand-selected stops\, it offers tonal diversity capable of bringing German Baroque masterpieces and French Romantic works vividly to life. \nIn 2007\, the organ was further modernized with a new electrified console\, expanding its versatility with couplers that allow for English choral accompaniment and Romantic-era repertoire. More than 40 years since its installation\, it remains a beloved and powerful instrument\, continuing a long tradition that stretches back to the congregation’s very first melodeon. \n✨ Why you’ll want to be there: \nHear Bach\, French masters\, and more come alive on one of Cape Cod’s most versatile instruments.\nExperience the talent of Joe Marchio\, not just as a conductor and educator\, but as a solo performer.\nSupport the Cape Symphony Orchestra\, Chatham Chorale\, and First Congregational Church of Chatham—a portion of every ticket goes directly to these cornerstones of our community.\n🎟️ Seating is limited—reserve your tickets now for a very special afternoon of live music\, community\, and celebration. \n👉 Child and student discounts available—contact rchwastiak@capesymphony.org for details.
