In 2021 Kevin was given the Fred Ebbett Lifetime Achievement Award by the Cape Cod Baseball League in recognition of his 20 years as producer of the annual Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame ceremony. \nAbout The Orpheum Theater: \nThe original Orpheum Theater opened in 1916 as Chatham’s first and only movie house. From the early days of silent films through the blockbuster era of JAWS\, our Main Street movie theater was a magical place for 72 years — a year-round destination where generations of Cape Cod families and summer visitors could enjoy gripping dramas\, slapstick comedies\, joyous musicals or swashbuckling adventure films week after week. \nIn 1938\, the building was purchased by Interstate Theaters Corporation and became known as the Chatham Theater. Then in 1987\, like so many village movie theaters on Cape Cod\, it ceased operations\, went dark\, and eventually became a CVS pharmacy. The entire town mourned the loss of this iconic Main Street treasure\, but the tradition was never forgotten. \nThe return of the Chatham Orpheum Theater began in November 2011\, right after CVS vacated the historic theater building at 637 Main Street. A local grass roots team was quickly formed and established a non-profit organization with an audacious goal: To raise funds needed to buy the original Orpheum building and bring back movies to Main Street.\nLed by founding president Naomi M. Turner and a local team of volunteers\, the first $1.3 million was raised to purchase the building in April 2012. The lecture\, entitled ‘Gunpowder and Greasepaint’ is perfect for a diverse audience. Joe will tell a story that takes you from the firing range at Scorton Neck to the stage lights of Broadway! \nCome and hear the thrilling tale of how the 1st Composite Anti-Aircraft Demonstration Battalion\, Royal Artillery\, and star of stage and screen\, Gertrude Lawrence\, came together on Cape Cod in 1943. Joe will also be displaying items from CCMM for folks to look at before and after the talk. \nAbout Joe Yukna: \nJoe Yukna’s interest in the military history of Cape Cod began when he worked as a Department of Defense Police Officer on Camp Edwards/Otis ANGB in the late 1980s. Joe Yukna with colleague Jerry Ellis then embarked on a venture to create a military museum. They secured two barracks and six surrounding acres on Camp Edwards for the project. September 11th ended that venture. After a hiatus\, they got back to work. Yukna has been collecting artifacts and information on military activities here on the Cape and the overseas activities of units that trained here. He has also helped various historical societies with military displays. After leaving the D.O.D. Police force\, Joe started his own dog training business and is better known as ‘Joe the Dogman’. He is the son of a WWII /Korean War Navy Veteran and the Father of an Army War on Terror Veteran.
