SUMMARY:Pilgrims Arrive!
DESCRIPTION:Presented by G. Thomas Ryan as part of a year long series\, God of Our Fathers: The Mighty Miracles of the American Revolution. \nBefore they arrived at Plymouth\, the Pilgrims arrived in the midst of the Nauset Tribe and spent a month exploring the Outer Cape. History can describe trends over centuries and sharing the story through actual events allows all to appreciate the past through named men and women\, and even their inner-soul struggles. On November 21\, the events are truly local. The audience might then consider meanings for today as they come upon beaches and creeks\, named streets and schools\, and families who are descended from the Mayflower or Nauset – added depth for lived history.\nInfo: 508-240-2400 | artsempoweringlife.org FREE

SUMMARY:A Christmas Carol
DESCRIPTION:Artistic Director David Drake stages this fresh and lively adaptation by the acclaimed playwright Doris Baizley that brings together a cast of 17 Cape Cod actors. \nSet during the Great Depression\, the show opens with a ragtag traveling theater troupe arriving in town to perform the Dickens’ classic\, only to discover that their Scrooge has jumped ship and Tiny Tim’s been fired for eating the props. But the show must go on — so the troupe bands together\, recasts the roles\, and delivers Dickens’ yuletide tale of ghosts\, regrets\, redemption\, and generosity for its eager audience. \nIn a family-friendly production that includes live music\, clowning\, singing\, dancing\, and sets and props constantly being pulled from their traveling carts\, crates\, and suitcases\, the stellar cast of A Christmas Carol features Eric Auger\, Jennifer Cabral\, Connie Chan\, Andrew Clemons\, Sean Flyr\, Bob Junker\, Sabrina Kulka\, Ian Leahy\, Patrick Lenihan\, Thom Markee\, Bryant A. Marshall\, Racine Oxtoby\, Denise Page\, Brett Parson\, Copper Santiago\, Laura Scribner\, and Paul J. Halley as Ebenezer Scrooge.

SUMMARY:Won't You Be My Neighbor
DESCRIPTION:For over 30 years\, Fred Rogers\, an unassuming minister\, puppeteer\, writer and producer\, was beamed daily into homes across America. In his beloved television program\, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood\, Fred and his cast of puppets and friends spoke directly to young children about some of life’s weightiest issues\, in a simple\, direct fashion. There hadn’t been anything like Mr. Rogers on television before and there hasn’t been since. \nThrough interviews with friends\, family\, and colleagues\, the film examines Rogers’ philosophy of using television to teach children about empathy\, kindness\, and acceptance\, while also highlighting his personal struggles\, such as self-doubt. The documentary also uses archival footage to show his impact\, including his work to advocate for public television.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Talks: Russ Cohen: Nibbling on the Wild Landscape of Cape Cod
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our November ‘Tuesday Talks’ lecture on Tuesday\, 11/18\, at 5pm with Russ Cohen. The Cape is home to over 100 species of edible wild plants\, many of which are more nutritious and/or flavorful than their cultivated counterparts. These include native species\, like Fox Grape and Beach Plum; non-native weeds\, like Chicory and Burdock; and invasive species\, like Autumn Olive and Japanese Knotweed. Join Russ Cohen\, author of the book Wild Plants I Have Known…and Eaten\, to learn about at least two dozen of the tastiest wild plant species the Cape has to offer. These include species everyone knows well\, like Daisies and Dandelions\, to species people may have never even heard of\, like Wild Raisin and Carrion Flower. Keys to the identification of each species will be provided\, along with info on edible portion(s)\, season(s) of availability and preparation methods\, as well as guidelines for safe\, ethical and environmentally-responsible foraging. Russ’s talk will include handouts and samples to nibble on.\nAbout Russ Cohen:\nUntil his retirement in June of 2015\, Russ Cohen’s ‘day job’ was serving as the Rivers Advocate for the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game’s Division of Ecological Restoration\, where one of his areas of expertise was in riparian vegetation. Now Russ has more time to pursue his passionate avocation\, which is connecting to nature via his taste buds\, and assisting others in doing the same. In addition to leading over three dozen wild edibles-themed walks and talks each year at a wide variety of venues throughout the Northeast\, Russ has now taken on a role of Johnny Appleseed for edible native species. He has set up a small nursery (in Weston) where he grows/keeps plants that he propagates from seed (some of which he collected himself). He is then collaborating with land trusts\, cities and towns\, schools and colleges\, state and federal agencies\, Tribal members and groups\, organic farms and others to plant plants from his nursery in appropriate places on their properties.
