DESCRIPTION:Isolated in an analogous Martian base (Mars Desert Research Station – MDRS) in the desert of Utah\, USA\, an all-female crew alternate between simulation missions outside (with radios\, helmets\, suits and astronaut protocols) and the development of their research at the base\, all aimed at contributing to the mission to make inhabiting Mars a possibility in the not-too-distant future. \nIt’s estimated that we will be on Mars in 20 years\, but the energy\, protection and power challenges for this goal are gigantic. The Hypatia I crew intent\, among other things\, to grow fish and plants on Mars\, to demonstrate that some single-celled living organisms can adapt to Martian radiation\, or to manufacture a low-cost Martian GPS. The crew also hope to act as clear references to inspire girls and young women to pursue scientific careers and explore the universe. At a time when only 30% of the world’s scientific research is conducted by women and only 20% of space research\, there’s a real need for more women scientists.

Classical and Contemporary Cello. \nTaiwanese cellist Chih-Yi (Joy) Chu is an artist whose work bridges classical tradition and contemporary innovation. Currently pursuing a Graduate Diploma at the New England Conservatory\, she holds a Master of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and a Bachelor of Science degree from National Taiwan University.  \nAn accomplished orchestral and chamber musician\, she has performed as principal cellist of the National Taiwan University Symphony Orchestra and the Prague Summer Nights Festival Orchestra\, collaborating with members of the Czech Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Her experience also includes performances with the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic under Marin Alsop\, the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra\, and the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra\, as well as appearances with the New World Symphony and other regional ensembles in the Boston area.

The show captures how ordinary people responded with extraordinary kindness\, forging connections across cultures and circumstances. \n“This is a story about choosing care in moments of uncertainty\,” said Vana Trudeau\, Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for the Performing Arts Program at 4Cs and the Director of the show. “Come From Away reminds us that community is built through action—through empathy\, understanding\, and the simple decision to show up for one another. Bringing this story to our main stage feels especially resonant right now.” \nCome From Away runs April 9–25\, 2026\, with evening performances Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Saturday matinees at 2:00 pm.
