DESCRIPTION:Kim Wilson\,  legendary harmonica virtuoso and frontman of The Fabulous Thunderbirds\, brings what may be his most personally meaningful tour yet to The Spire Center on November 5. The “A Tribute to Chicago Blues” tour represents a homecoming of sorts for Wilson\, who cut his teeth playing alongside the very architects of the Chicago blues sound during the genre’s golden era. \nThe “Tribute to Chicago Blues” tour will feature a mix of classic chestnuts and deeper cuts from the Chicago blues catalog. “There will be a lot more traditional songs in the set\,” Wilson explains. “We haven’t decided exactly how we’re going to mix it up yet\, but I’m hoping I can do this for a little while\, to be honest with you.”

SUMMARY:The Laszlo Gardony Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Laszlo Gardony Quartet plays the main stage\, as part of the Spire Center’s Lobby Series November 12.  Winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition\, pianist / composer Gardony has been noted for his “fluid pianism” by The New York Times\, and the legendary Dave Brubeck called him “a great pianist.” Two of his albums made DownBeat Magazine’s “Best of the Year” list as well as the Boston Globe’s “Best Jazz Albums of the Year” list.  He is a professor of piano at Berklee College of Music in Boston and on the faculty at Harvard University’s “Jazz Combo Initiative” program.  \nThe quartet is composed of three other outstanding musicians.  Don Braden is a world-class tenor saxophonist\, flutist\, composer\, and educator recognized globally for his dynamic jazz solos\, prolific compositions\, and dedicated teaching. He has performed alongside greats including Betty Carter\, Wynton Marsalis\, Freddie Hubbard\, and Roy Haynes\, Drummer Yoron Israel stands as one of the most sought-after musicians of his generation. In addition to leading his own projects\, he has contributed to over 200 recordings as an accompanist with luminaries such as Sonny Rollins\, Abbey Lincoln\, Ahmad Jamal\, and Horace Silver.  Yoran has been a member of the Laszlo Gardony Trio for over 20 years and is Chair and Professor of Percussion at Berklee College of Music.  Bassist John Lockwood has earned an esteemed international reputation throughout his career\, performing alongside legends such as Joe Henderson\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Pat Metheny\, and Freddie Hubbard\, to name a few.  John also serves as an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music.

DESCRIPTION:Latin Grammy-nominated Making Movies\, whose album NPR called “lyrically and sonically one of the best albums of the year\,” is coming to the Outer Cape for two nights. Led by Panamanian-born Enrique Chi\, the band blends rumbero percussion with psychedelic rock and the rarely heard mejorana\, a handmade Panamanian instrument. \nCatch them Friday\, November 13 at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater or Saturday\, November 14 at Fishermen Hall in Provincetown. It’s his new aide Virgil’s first day and he doesn’t want to be late\, but Billy would rather kill some time than be early for another appointment in a life that has been reduced to nothing but appointments. Who knew killing time could be so much fun? There is no fancy footwork in a contra dance – if you can walk\, you can dance! Outermost Contra dances are led by an experienced caller and present the best dance musicians on the Cape – and beyond. \nOutermost Contra is family friendly and welcomes dancers of all levels. If you are new to contra or just want to polish your skills\, be sure to come to the Contra Skills walk-through at 6:30. Milne wrote Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner\, he wrote them for everyone. In this adaptation of the stories that became classics\, it too\, is meant for everyone at any age. It’s a perfect way to bring in the holiday season. \nIt’s nearly 11 and Billy Moon has an appointment. It’s his new aide Virgil’s first day and he doesn’t want to be late\, but Billy would rather kill some time than be early for another appointment in a life that has been reduced to nothing but appointments. Who knew killing time could be so much fun? The Hundred Aker Wood is a story told with humor\, heart and wonderful new songs.\nDirected by Maura Hanlon\, with musical direction by Scott Storr\, the production features scenic design by Ryan McGettigan\, costumes by Robin McLaughlin\, lighting by Susan Nicholson\, and stage management by Brielle Whalen. \nAnd then there’s the cast—a marvelous gathering of Cape Rep favorites\, including Macklin Devine\, Art Devine\, Zack Johnson\, Christina Morrell\, Trish LaRose\, Ian Hamilton\, and Brian Lore Evans.
