SUMMARY:Cape Symphony Presents: OCEAN / CURRENT
DESCRIPTION:Contemporary dance meets ocean science in an intimate Cape Cod performance with Boston Dance Theater and Danceport. Join Cape Symphony Presents for OCEAN / CURRENT\, an intimate and immersive evening of contemporary dance inspired by the ocean\, environmental change\, and the powerful relationship between movement\, sound\, and ecology. Featuring excerpts from Boston Dance Theater’s SURGE project\, developed in collaboration with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) ocean scientist Larry J. Pratt. Through bold and expressive movement\, the work translates scientific concepts such as ocean systems\, current\, flow\, and environmental change into a deeply human performance experience. \nPresented in partnership with Boston Dance Theater + Danceport. \nThe evening will also highlight local dance through original work choreographed by Danceport Founder and Owner Michelle Chwastiak and performed by the Danceport Company. These works\, including If the World Was a House and Diamonds on the Water\, reflect themes of ocean preservation\, environmental connection\, and the fragile beauty of the world around us. \nThe program will conclude with a collaborative improvisation featuring dancers from both Boston Dance Theater and Danceport\, set to ambient recordings of local ocean sounds. A brief audience talkback will follow\, offering a chance to hear directly from the artists about the creative process\, the science behind the movement\, and the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration. \nThis one-night-only performance brings together world-class contemporary dance\, local artistry\, and Cape Cod’s deep connection to the ocean. \nEvent Details\nDate: Friday\, August 7\nTime: 6:00 PM\nRun Time: Approximately 75 to 85 minutes\nLocation: Cape Symphony’s Falmouth Campus (60 Highfield Drive) \nGeneral Admission: $30; purchase tickets through Eventbrite.\nStudents and Children: discounts available—contact csp@capesymphony.org for details. \nSpace is limited for this intimate performance experience. Reserve your tickets early!

SUMMARY:Luminous Places: Jonathan McPhillips One Man Show
DESCRIPTION:Demonstration at 4:00\, reception 5:00 to 7:00 Music by Cape favorite Sarah Burrill \nThese paintings are inspired by explorations on the Outer Cape\, where the changing light and landscape offer unique opportunities for artistic exploration. Many began as plein-air studies of the harbors\, villages\, and expansive shorelines. Working outdoors allows McPhillips to respond directly to the shifting weather and tide. He continues from those first observations to create his finished works. According to Jonathan\, “Allowing for deeper consideration and reflection\, I can let a group of inspirations grow together and form their stories. This process helps me to honor the light\, atmosphere\, and history of the places we cherish.” \nJonathan McPhillips\, a cum laude graduate of Connecticut College with a BFA in Fine Art\, celebrates the coastal splendor of New England. Equally adept in the studio or on location\, Jonathan’s work encompasses harbors\, beaches\, vessels\, and the distinct architecture of the coastal marine environment. \nWith an impressive list of awards and accomplishments\, Jonathan’s artistry has garnered national and international recognition. His work has been showcased in various U.S. embassies through the “Art in Embassies” program by the U.S. Department of State. As an esteemed member of various professional art organizations\, including the Providence Art Club\, The Salmagundi Club\, NY\, and the American Impressionists Society\, Jonathan continues to evolve and inspire\, bringing to life the allure of coastal New England.

SUMMARY:Creating Together: Steve and Karri Allrich
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 4:00 for a casual discussion with Steve\, a respected teacher\, on his inspirations\, techniques\, tools and materials\, and a look at his latest works-in-progress. The reception from 5:00 to 7:00 will feature music by Larry Murray. \nFor over three decades\, starting when Karri took her first painting workshop with Steve\, the Allriches inspired each other to expand their horizons and grow in their artistic careers. \nConcentrating on atmospheric abstracts and representational landscapes\, Steve continues to paint almost daily. While we were saddened by Karri’s passing in December of last year\, we are honored to represent her varied works including abstracts on paper never previously shown.

SUMMARY:Cape Symphony Presents: Pokey LaFarge
DESCRIPTION:A rare\, intimate evening with one of America’s most distinctive voices in roots music. \nPokey LaFarge brings a series of exclusive solo performances to the East Coast this August\, and Cape Cod is one of the select stops. \nThis special performance will take place in the Hermann Theater at the Simon Center for the Arts at Falmouth Academy\, an intimate listening room ideal for experiencing live music up close. \nPresented in collaboration with MVY Radio and supported by the The Cape Cod Foundation through the Falmouth Fund and Cape & Coast Bank\, this evening reflects a shared commitment to bringing meaningful\, high-quality live music experiences to the region. \nKnown for his unmistakable blend of Americana\, early jazz\, ragtime\, country blues\, and rock and roll\, Pokey’s music feels both timeless and completely alive. Drawing from the deep roots of American music while carving out a sound entirely his own\, his performances balance vintage influence with a modern edge. \nFor these special solo shows\, Pokey strips it all back to voice\, guitar\, and storytelling\, offering a rare\, up close reimagining of songs from his nine album catalog\, alongside fresh interpretations of Gospel\, Rock and Roll\, and Country classics. \nThis is not a full band show.\nThis is something rarer. \nAn artist at the height of his craft\, alone on stage\, creating a direct and immersive connection with the audience in a setting designed for deep listening. \nWhether you’re a longtime fan or discovering him for the first time\, this is a chance to experience one of the most compelling performers in Americana in an intimate\, one night only setting. \nThis is a limited capacity performance. Early purchase is strongly recommended. Secure your tickets now and experience Pokey LaFarge like never before.
