SUMMARY:Napi's Lecture Series: Dr. Katie Castagno on Cape Cod's Geologic Evolution
DESCRIPTION:The Center for Coastal Studies’ popular Napi’s Winter Lecture Series concludes on Wednesday\, March 25\, at 5 pm with Dr. Katie Castagno\, Director of the Center’s Land-Sea Interaction Program. Dr. Castagno will speak about “The Land-Sea Interaction Program Through (Geologic) Time.” \nThe event will be held at the Center’s Hiebert Marine Laboratory\, 5 Holway Avenue\, Provincetown. Admission is free\, and the talk will also be broadcast and recorded via Zoom. \nCape Cod has long been shaped by the dynamic interactions of the land and the sea. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Center for Coastal Studies\, Dr. Castagno explores the Cape’s geologic evolution alongside the history of the Land–Sea Interaction Program. Through multimedia excerpts from oral history interviews with Center founder Dr. Graham Giese\, past and present perspectives come together\, highlighting five decades of coastal science and the ongoing work of understanding a continually evolving shoreline. \nThe Napi’s Winter Lecture Series is named after the restaurant owned by the late Napi and Helen Van Dereck\, longtime supporters of the Center for Coastal Studies\, who originally hosted these talks in their famous Provincetown restaurant\, Napi’s. While the location of the lectures has moved to the Center’s Hiebert Marine Laboratory\, the name of this popular event is still called Napi’s Winter Lecture Series\, in memory of our friends Napi and Helen. \nReservations requested but not required. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served

SUMMARY:Napi's Winter Lecture Series: Seagrass Conservation
DESCRIPTION:The Center for Coastal Studies’ popular Napi’s Winter Lecture Series will resume Wednesday\, January 21 at 5 pm with a talk by CCS marine ecologist Dr. Agnes Mittermayr\, who will speak about the “Global Importance of Seagrass Conservation.” \nCalled the “forgotten ecosystem\,” seagrasses play a vital role in the health of our oceans and the well-being of coastal communities. They stabilize shorelines\, protect against storm surges\, purify water\, support rich marine biodiversity\, and provide nursery grounds for fish and shellfish that sustain global fisheries. \nThis popular winter lecture series\, historically held at Napi’s Restaurant in Provincetown\, is now hosted at the Center’s Hiebert Marine Laboratory\, 5 Holway Avenue\, Provincetown. \nThis is a free event and will also be available on Zoom. Click here to register.
