SUMMARY:Sol y Canto
DESCRIPTION:Help Sol y Canto celebrate their 30th Anniversary! \nSol y Canto is the award-winning Pan-Latin ensemble led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and percussionist Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist and composer Brian Amador. Featuring Rosi’s crystalline voice and Brian’s lush Spanish guitar and inventive compositions\, Sol y Canto’s original songs are socially conscious and hopeful\, set in a framework of varied musical styles with surprising twists. Their arrangements of Latin classics showcase familiar\, singable tunes in a fresh new light. Described by the Boston Globe as “sublime ambassadors of Latin music\,” Sol y Canto translates Spanish lyrics poetically to make their music accessible to all. They can make you dance\, laugh\, cry\, and sigh all in one concert. With Brian’s commanding\, intricate guitar playing\, Rosi’s rhythmic drive on cajón and bongos\, and liberal use of vocal improvisation and body percussion\, the duo’s sound is full and dynamic. With Queralt’s versatile cello playing and the addition of her voice to the group’s luscious harmonies\, the trio’s sound is both powerful and intimate.

SUMMARY:David Wax Museum
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy songs from David Wax Museum’s album “You Must Change Your Life\,” out May 5\, 2023\, on Nine Mile Records. “You Must Change Your Life” is an openhearted manifesto – a collection that embodies\, then transcends bedrock elements of the band’s 15-year recording career. For Wax\, music has guided every step he holds sacred; he’s followed its palpable power\, abiding by its requisite unpredictability. After graduating at the top of his class at Harvard\, he wandered off an academic path to southern Mexico\, finding what he calls “a clear before/after moment in my life.” There\, he studied folk music “at the feet of the masters” and internalized structures and rhythms that continue to drive the band today. He and wife\, Suz Slezak\, fell in love on their first national tour\, setting in motion a future full of vivid waking dreams. Together (now with their two children in tow)\, they’ve logged 1\,500 shows in every corner of the globe. Wax and Slezak have transmitted their kinetic energy in platforms including CBS This Morning: Saturday\, Tiny Desk Concert\, and NPR’s World Cafe. They have soundtracked love stories on and off screens\, from the Netflix #1 show Firefly Lane to the wedding of US Secretary of Transportation\, Pete Buttigieg. Wax and Slezak permit listeners to answer the whispers around and within them. David Wax Museum blends traditional Mexican music’s ancient and ever-relevant rhythms with amber pop hues\, their unabashed rock riffs emanating an air of AM radio circa 1975\, all tethered together by seductive harmonies. It’s a seamless tapestry of boundless curiosity\, an artful display of what Wax frames as “the lines blurring and dissolving between musical cultures and eras.” “You Must Change Your Life” is a celebration and an invocation\, pure and infallible: It’s never too late. What are you waiting for? You must change your life.

SUMMARY:Rakish
DESCRIPTION:Violinist Maura Shawn Scanlin and guitarist Conor Hearn unite to form “Rakish.” The pair gets their namesake from the traditional Irish tune Rakish Paddy\, an origin that aptly suits the duo and their shared background in traditional Irish and Scottish music. Yet “rakish” itself also suggests something strikingly unconventional in its appearance\, and Maura and Conor knowingly embrace this wealth of connotation in their music\, drawing on the music they grew up with and performing it with their own slant. Rakish explores tunes and songs from Irish and American folk traditions in a way that reflects their shared interest in and love for old traditional tunes\, chamber music and improvisation. Maura Shawn\, a two-time U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion and a winner of the Glenfiddich Fiddle Competition\, wields the technical range of a classical violinist and the deep sensitivity of a traditional musician. Conor\, a native to the Irish music communities of Washington\, D.C. and Baltimore\, MD\, makes his home in Boston\, MA\, playing and teaching guitar. As a duo\, they have performed at venues and festivals across North America and can be found teaching at fiddle camps across the country.

SUMMARY:Tomoko Iwamoto and Jazz Manouche Friends Presents a Tribute to Django
DESCRIPTION:Join jazzy violinist Tomoko Iwamoto and jazz manouche friends\, Jack Sofer\, Jameson Stewart\, and Greg Toro as they bring you a tribute to Django Reinhardt. Tomoko Iwamoto has been in the Boston jazz scene for more than 30 years. Being a “jazzy” violinist with a strong classical background\, Tomoko expands her repertoire in jazz\, rock\, pop\, and world music\, demonstrating a great sense of improvisation. She toured with Hypnotic Clambake led by accordionist Maury Rosenberg and studied Jazz Composition and Arranging at Berklee College of Music as a scholarship student. She was inspired by and composed for Turtle Island String Quartet and also performed with J-Way String Quartet. Then\, she encountered and fell in love with music by Django Reinhardt & Stéphane Grappelli. She formed the Gypsy Jazz quartet 440 and has been performing concerts in the New England area with original arrangements and her own compositions. Jack Soref grew up in Madison\, WI\, later becoming a Boston-based Guitarist\, fascinated by the music of Django Reinhardt. That Fascination has taken him onto festival and concert stages\, and venues all throughout the USA\, Canada\, Scotland\, and France. Jack is a mainstay of Django Festivals Django in June\, where he has taught since 2009\, and the Midwest Gypsy Swing Fest\, where he has performed as recently as 2023. Jameson Stewart is a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist based in Boston. Educated in California at Modesto Junior College’s music program\, he brings his guitar stylings to life performing with the Jack Soref Quartet\, The Hot Club of Boston\, as well as his own group. Gregory Toro was born and raised in Boston\, Massachusetts.  He fell in love with music and rhythm as a child\, and at the age of ten joined a neighborhood steel band that played calypso and church music on weekends.  He later took up guitar and piano but found his true calling as a bass player when he was sixteen years old.  Greg studied electric and upright bass and jazz composition at Berklee College of Music\, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with musicians from many different countries and cultures.
