SUMMARY:Thomas Dolby
DESCRIPTION:Perhaps best known for blinding us with science\, Thomas Dolby has always blurred the lines between composition and invention. \nThomas Morgan Robertson (born 14 October 1958)\, known by the stage name Thomas Dolby\, is an English musician\, producer\, composer\, entrepreneur and teacher. \nDolby came to prominence in the 1980s\, releasing hit singles including “She Blinded Me with Science” (1982) and “Hyperactive!” (1984). He has also worked as a producer and as a session musician. \nDolby is associated with the new wave movement of the early 1980s\, a form of pop music incorporating electronic instruments\, but Dolby’s work covers a wide range of musical styles and moods distinct from the high-energy pop sound of his few\, better-known commercial successes. \nIn the 1990s\, Dolby founded Beatnik\, a Silicon Valley software company which developed the polyphonic ringtone software and created the Nokia tune. Its technology was used in more than half a billion cell phones. He was also the music director for TED Conferences. On the faculty at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University since 2014\, Dolby leads Peabody’s Music for New Media program\, which enrolled its first students in the fall of 2018.

SUMMARY:Selwyn Birchwood
DESCRIPTION:Although award-winning Florida musician Selwyn Birchwood is firmly rooted in the tradition\, the young guitarist\, lap steel player\, songwriter and vocalist sets a course for the future of the blues with his visionary\, original music. Birchwood\, whose band features the pulsating interplay of his blistering guitar with Regi Oliver’s driving baritone sax\, deploys a singular sound and style all his own. He calls it “Electric Swamp Funkin’ Blues\,” an intoxicating mix of deep blues\, blistering\, psychedelic-tinged rock\, booty-shaking funk and sweet Southern soul\, played and sung with the fire-and-brimstone fervor of a revival tent preacher with a hellhound on his trail. Tastemaker Americana music magazine No Depression says\, “Selwyn Birchwood reaches back in the blues tradition to launch something out of this world.

SUMMARY:Mark Erelli Band
DESCRIPTION:Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Mark Erelli is a Boston-based veteran of the folk and roots music scene\, renowned for his emotional honesty\, craftsmanship\, and warmth. Erelli exploded out of the gate in 1999 when he won the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Award in the wake of his “auspicious debut” (Billboard)\, joining the ranks of previous honorees like Lyle Lovett and Nanci Griffith. More recently\, Erelli penned the anti-gun violence song “By Degrees\,” recorded in collaboration with Rosanne Cash\, Sheryl Crow\, and others\, which garnered a nomination for Song of the Year at the 2019 Americana Honors and Awards. He followed this honor with a pair of records that drew comparisons to both Tom Petty and John Prine\, as well as praise for their energy\, grace\, and resilience. Now\, on his fourteenth solo album Spring Green\, Erelli delivers his most cohesive and emotionally resonant work to date—a meditation on vulnerability\, endurance\, and renewal.

SUMMARY:Spyro Gyra
DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, Jay Beckenstein and band started its observation of the 50th anniversary of the band. What started as a diversion\, something that was just for fun (and twenty-five cents at the door) continues its evolution into 2025. It began inauspiciously when Beckenstein and a few musician friends in Buffalo NY organized a get together on their shared night off from working in bands that actually made money. It was a simple\, humble idea with a name that was likewise simple and humble\, “Tuesday Night – Jazz Jam”. Fast forward 50 years and this jazz super group has released over 30 albums\, garnering gold and platinum along the way. They’ve played over 10\,000 concerts on six continents. Spyro Gyra has maintained its standards of excellence and that has sustained them on the “A list” of live attractions in jazz for 50 years.

SUMMARY:The Suitcase Junket
DESCRIPTION:The Suitcase Junket developed in the tension between the grand and the solitary. Grand in imagery\, sound\, and staging. Solitary in thrift and self-reliance. NPR calls Matt Lorenz a “master of musical imagination.” What instruments he requires\, Lorenz builds from scratch and salvage. What parts five players would perform\, he performs alone. The spectacle of his one-man set bears comparison to legends of showmanship\, brilliance\, madness\, and invention. While audiences are captivated by that solitary form and the show itself\, Lorenz\, who homesteads in Western Massachusetts\, is most serious about the songs. Over the course of six full-length releases\, including the latest The End is New from Renew Records at BMG\, he has written a world into existence\, crowded with characters\, narratives\, voices\, imagery\, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes\, plus newsreels of the planet’s destruction and salvage.

SUMMARY:Stanley Jordan Plays Jimi
DESCRIPTION:World-renowned guitarist Stanley Jordan has developed a new live show called “Stanley Jordan Plays Jimi.” This is a tribute show\, but it’s not pure imitation. Instead Stanley builds on Jimi’s legacy in a creative way. As Stanley explains it\, “This is my fantasy Jimi Hendrix concert if Jimi were still playing today. By re-imagining his music and channeling his persona I try to bring that fantasy to life. \nIt may be surprising that Stanley Jordan would take on a project like this. After all\, Stanley is already a well-known guitarist with a signature style\, four Grammy nominations\, a cameo in a Blake Edwards film (Blind Date)\, and a host of TV appearances over a long career including Jimmy Fallon\, David Letterman\, Jay Leno and Johnny Carson to name a few. But Stanley explains\, “I feel a strong connection to Jimi Hendrix because he was the first guitarist I emulated as a child. Out of love for Jimi and his music I feel a strong desire to try to keep his legacy alive. \nIt may also be surprising that a rock legend like Hendrix would get so much love from a jazz legend like Jordan. Stanley’s 1985 album Magic Touch was #1 on Billboard’s jazz chart for 51 weeks\, and Stanley has shared the stage or recorded with jazz artists such as Benny Carter\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Miles Davis and Billy Cobham. But again\, hearing it from Stanley\, “I actually played rock and blues before I played jazz. In fact\, Jimi’s constant searching for new sounds inspired me to move toward jazz in the first place. \nIn recent years Stanley has performed with many artists in the rock and jam band worlds\, including the Dave Matthews Band\, Umphrey’s McGee\, Moe. and more. Stanley says\, “Returning to my rock roots has been an absolute joy artistically\, and with this project I’m taking that to a new level.”

SUMMARY:Eilen Jewell
DESCRIPTION:Hailed by American Songwriter as one of Americas most intriguing\, creative\, and idiosyncratic voices\, Eilen Jewell rises from the ashes on her captivating new album\, Get Behind The Wheel\, picking up the pieces of her shattered world and finding new purpose and meaning after watching her marriage\, her band\, and what felt like her entire career fall apart in a series of spectacular\, heartbreaking implosions. Co produced by multi instrumental wizard Will Kimbrough (Todd Snider\, Hayes Carll)\, the collection pushes the acclaimed singer and songwriters trademark blend of vintage roots noir into more psychedelic territory\, with spacious\, cinematic arrangements complementing her revelatory explorations of grief\, loss\, resilience\, and redemption \nAn Idaho native\, Jewell built her career the old fashioned way\, touring relentlessly with the kind of undeniable live show that converts the uninitiated into instant acolytes. Over the course of nine albums\, she has crisscrossed the globe countless times and shared bills with the likes of Lucinda Williams\, Loretta Lynn\, Mavis Staples\, Wanda Jackson\, George Jones\, and Emmylou Harris\, Rolling Stone lauded Jewells clever writing\, while\, NPR declared that she has a sweet and clear voice with a killer instinct lurking beneath the shiny surface\, and The Washington Post mused that if Neko Case\, Madeleine Peyroux and Billie Holiday had a baby girl who grew up to front a rockabilly band\, she would probably sound a lot like Eilen Jewell.

DESCRIPTION:Welcome To Adam Ezra Group \n He takes a month out of each year to visit the living rooms of his fans around the country… \n His band and nonprofit organization RallySound host a free festival every summer that raised $151\,000 for homeless veterans in 2024… \n He live-streamed for 500 nights in a row during the pandemic… \n They co-produced an album with 163 fans… \nIf you haven’t connected with Adam Ezra Group yet\, these are just a few examples to help you understand how this underground\, Americana songwriter and his bandmates seem to have popped out of nowhere\, establishing a connection with their fans unlike any other\, and are suddenly selling out theaters throughout the Northeast. \nAdam Ezra will joke with you that while the “nowhere” part might be accurate\, nothing has ever just “popped” for this folk musician\, activist. Without resources\, connections\, or any kind of clue how the music world works\, Ezra began playing shows over 20 years ago. When music venues wouldn’t hire him\, he played bars\, bookstores\, fields\, and parking lots\, often raising money for causes he cared about; a practice that grew into his nonprofit organization RallySound.

SUMMARY:Duke Robillard
DESCRIPTION:Putting Renewed emphasis on the Blues Whether it’s a song\, a style\, an idiom or an image\, Duke Robillard will render it with mastery\, power\, nuance and an unerring grasp of its essence. \nBorn Michael John Robillard on October 4\, 1948\, in Woonsocket\, R.I.\, Duke has carved out one of blues’ most illustrious legacies\, while also trodding some lofty related territories as a guitarist\, vocalist\, songwriter\, bandleader\, studio sideman\, producer\, label operator and educator. \nAfter showing an early affinity for music and guitar\, he founded Roomful Of Blues with pianist Al Copley in Westerly\, R.I.\, in 1967. By adding horns\, Roomful announced itself emphatically as the prototypical jump blues band\, and became a New England legend and a fixture beyond\, as did Duke himself. \nHis unsurpassed mastery of the guitar style of T-Bone Walker (later crystallized memorably in his 2004 release “Blue Mood”) was deservedly heralded\, but his breadth was also head-turning – from swing\, standards and ballads to rockers\, gutbucket Chicago blues and rockabilly. \nBy the time Duke left Roomful after a dozen years\, he was firmly established in the upper echelon of contemporary blues guitarists. Duke went from Roomful to a stint with rockabilly revivalist Robert Gordon and then to the first iteration of the Legendary Blues Band\, composed primarily of then-recent Muddy Waters sidemen. \nThe Duke Robillard Band debuted in 1981\, re-emerging as The Pleasure Kings with their eponymous 1984 album on Rounder. It and its sequel\, “Too Hot To Handle\,” burnished Duke’s songwriting portfolio; the 1987 jazz outing “Swing” (with saxophonist Scott Hamilton) underscored his versatility and remains a highlight. \nContinuing his solo career\, Duke replaced Jimmie Vaughan with The Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1990. He cut his own much-awaited straight blues album “Duke’s Blues” in 1993 for Canadian imprint Stony Plain\, leading eventually to a rewarding\, continuing and prolific alliance\, along with releases during the ensuing years on Point Blank/Virgin and Shanachie\, as well as instructional videos. He has also launched his own labels with Jesse Finkelstein\, Blue Duchess/Shining Stone.

DESCRIPTION:Multi-Instrumentalist and Singer-Songwriter Darrell Scott mines and cultivates the everyday moment\, taking the rote\, menial\, mundane\, and allowing it to be surreal\, ever poignant\, and candidly honest\, lilting\, blooming\, and resonating. The words he fosters allow us to make sense of the world\, what is at stake here\, and our place in it. And ultimately\, Darrell knows the sole truth of life is that love is all that matters\, that we don’t always get it right\, but that’s the instinctive and requisite circuitous allure of things\, why we forever chase it\, and why it is held sacred. \nDarrell Scott comes from a musical family with a father who had him smitten with guitars by the age of 4\, alongside a brother who played Jerry Reed style as well. From there\, things only ramped up with literature and poetry endeavors while a student at Tufts University\, along with playing his way through life. This would never change. \nAfter recently touring with Robert Plant and Zac Brown Band (2 years with each)\, and producing albums for Malcolm Holcombe and Guy Clark and being named “songwriter of the year” for both ASCAP and NSAI\, these days find him roaming his Tennessee wilderness acreage hiking along the small river\, creating delicious meals with food raised on his property\, and playing music. He often leads songwriting workshops to help people tell their own truths with their stories\, and is as busy as always writing\, producing\, performing\, and just plain fully immersing himself in life.
