SUMMARY:Mark Erelli Band
DESCRIPTION:Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Mark Erelli is a Boston-based veteran of the folk and roots music scene\, renowned for his emotional honesty\, craftsmanship\, and warmth. Erelli exploded out of the gate in 1999 when he won the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Award in the wake of his “auspicious debut” (Billboard)\, joining the ranks of previous honorees like Lyle Lovett and Nanci Griffith. More recently\, Erelli penned the anti-gun violence song “By Degrees\,” recorded in collaboration with Rosanne Cash\, Sheryl Crow\, and others\, which garnered a nomination for Song of the Year at the 2019 Americana Honors and Awards. He followed this honor with a pair of records that drew comparisons to both Tom Petty and John Prine\, as well as praise for their energy\, grace\, and resilience. Now\, on his fourteenth solo album Spring Green\, Erelli delivers his most cohesive and emotionally resonant work to date—a meditation on vulnerability\, endurance\, and renewal.

SUMMARY:Spyro Gyra
DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, Jay Beckenstein and band started its observation of the 50th anniversary of the band. What started as a diversion\, something that was just for fun (and twenty-five cents at the door) continues its evolution into 2025. It began inauspiciously when Beckenstein and a few musician friends in Buffalo NY organized a get together on their shared night off from working in bands that actually made money. It was a simple\, humble idea with a name that was likewise simple and humble\, “Tuesday Night – Jazz Jam”. Fast forward 50 years and this jazz super group has released over 30 albums\, garnering gold and platinum along the way. They’ve played over 10\,000 concerts on six continents. Spyro Gyra has maintained its standards of excellence and that has sustained them on the “A list” of live attractions in jazz for 50 years.

SUMMARY:The Suitcase Junket
DESCRIPTION:The Suitcase Junket developed in the tension between the grand and the solitary. Grand in imagery\, sound\, and staging. Solitary in thrift and self-reliance. NPR calls Matt Lorenz a “master of musical imagination.” What instruments he requires\, Lorenz builds from scratch and salvage. What parts five players would perform\, he performs alone. The spectacle of his one-man set bears comparison to legends of showmanship\, brilliance\, madness\, and invention. While audiences are captivated by that solitary form and the show itself\, Lorenz\, who homesteads in Western Massachusetts\, is most serious about the songs. Over the course of six full-length releases\, including the latest The End is New from Renew Records at BMG\, he has written a world into existence\, crowded with characters\, narratives\, voices\, imagery\, sounds as wide and varied as mountain throat singers and roadhouse juke boxes\, plus newsreels of the planet’s destruction and salvage.

SUMMARY:Stanley Jordan Plays Jimi
DESCRIPTION:World-renowned guitarist Stanley Jordan has developed a new live show called “Stanley Jordan Plays Jimi.” This is a tribute show\, but it’s not pure imitation. Instead Stanley builds on Jimi’s legacy in a creative way. As Stanley explains it\, “This is my fantasy Jimi Hendrix concert if Jimi were still playing today. By re-imagining his music and channeling his persona I try to bring that fantasy to life. \nIt may be surprising that Stanley Jordan would take on a project like this. After all\, Stanley is already a well-known guitarist with a signature style\, four Grammy nominations\, a cameo in a Blake Edwards film (Blind Date)\, and a host of TV appearances over a long career including Jimmy Fallon\, David Letterman\, Jay Leno and Johnny Carson to name a few. But Stanley explains\, “I feel a strong connection to Jimi Hendrix because he was the first guitarist I emulated as a child. Out of love for Jimi and his music I feel a strong desire to try to keep his legacy alive. \nIt may also be surprising that a rock legend like Hendrix would get so much love from a jazz legend like Jordan. Stanley’s 1985 album Magic Touch was #1 on Billboard’s jazz chart for 51 weeks\, and Stanley has shared the stage or recorded with jazz artists such as Benny Carter\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Miles Davis and Billy Cobham. But again\, hearing it from Stanley\, “I actually played rock and blues before I played jazz. In fact\, Jimi’s constant searching for new sounds inspired me to move toward jazz in the first place. \nIn recent years Stanley has performed with many artists in the rock and jam band worlds\, including the Dave Matthews Band\, Umphrey’s McGee\, Moe. and more. Stanley says\, “Returning to my rock roots has been an absolute joy artistically\, and with this project I’m taking that to a new level.”

SUMMARY:Eilen Jewell
DESCRIPTION:Hailed by American Songwriter as one of Americas most intriguing\, creative\, and idiosyncratic voices\, Eilen Jewell rises from the ashes on her captivating new album\, Get Behind The Wheel\, picking up the pieces of her shattered world and finding new purpose and meaning after watching her marriage\, her band\, and what felt like her entire career fall apart in a series of spectacular\, heartbreaking implosions. Co produced by multi instrumental wizard Will Kimbrough (Todd Snider\, Hayes Carll)\, the collection pushes the acclaimed singer and songwriters trademark blend of vintage roots noir into more psychedelic territory\, with spacious\, cinematic arrangements complementing her revelatory explorations of grief\, loss\, resilience\, and redemption \nAn Idaho native\, Jewell built her career the old fashioned way\, touring relentlessly with the kind of undeniable live show that converts the uninitiated into instant acolytes. Over the course of nine albums\, she has crisscrossed the globe countless times and shared bills with the likes of Lucinda Williams\, Loretta Lynn\, Mavis Staples\, Wanda Jackson\, George Jones\, and Emmylou Harris\, Rolling Stone lauded Jewells clever writing\, while\, NPR declared that she has a sweet and clear voice with a killer instinct lurking beneath the shiny surface\, and The Washington Post mused that if Neko Case\, Madeleine Peyroux and Billie Holiday had a baby girl who grew up to front a rockabilly band\, she would probably sound a lot like Eilen Jewell.

Without resources\, connections\, or any kind of clue how the music world works\, Ezra began playing shows over 20 years ago. When music venues wouldn’t hire him\, he played bars\, bookstores\, fields\, and parking lots\, often raising money for causes he cared about; a practice that grew into his nonprofit organization RallySound.

SUMMARY:Duke Robillard
DESCRIPTION:Putting Renewed emphasis on the Blues Whether it’s a song\, a style\, an idiom or an image\, Duke Robillard will render it with mastery\, power\, nuance and an unerring grasp of its essence. \nBorn Michael John Robillard on October 4\, 1948\, in Woonsocket\, R.I.\, Duke has carved out one of blues’ most illustrious legacies\, while also trodding some lofty related territories as a guitarist\, vocalist\, songwriter\, bandleader\, studio sideman\, producer\, label operator and educator. \nAfter showing an early affinity for music and guitar\, he founded Roomful Of Blues with pianist Al Copley in Westerly\, R.I.\, in 1967. By adding horns\, Roomful announced itself emphatically as the prototypical jump blues band\, and became a New England legend and a fixture beyond\, as did Duke himself. \nHis unsurpassed mastery of the guitar style of T-Bone Walker (later crystallized memorably in his 2004 release “Blue Mood”) was deservedly heralded\, but his breadth was also head-turning – from swing\, standards and ballads to rockers\, gutbucket Chicago blues and rockabilly. \nBy the time Duke left Roomful after a dozen years\, he was firmly established in the upper echelon of contemporary blues guitarists. Duke went from Roomful to a stint with rockabilly revivalist Robert Gordon and then to the first iteration of the Legendary Blues Band\, composed primarily of then-recent Muddy Waters sidemen. \nThe Duke Robillard Band debuted in 1981\, re-emerging as The Pleasure Kings with their eponymous 1984 album on Rounder. It and its sequel\, “Too Hot To Handle\,” burnished Duke’s songwriting portfolio; the 1987 jazz outing “Swing” (with saxophonist Scott Hamilton) underscored his versatility and remains a highlight. \nContinuing his solo career\, Duke replaced Jimmie Vaughan with The Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1990. He cut his own much-awaited straight blues album “Duke’s Blues” in 1993 for Canadian imprint Stony Plain\, leading eventually to a rewarding\, continuing and prolific alliance\, along with releases during the ensuing years on Point Blank/Virgin and Shanachie\, as well as instructional videos. He has also launched his own labels with Jesse Finkelstein\, Blue Duchess/Shining Stone.

SUMMARY:Darrell Scott
DESCRIPTION:Multi-Instrumentalist and Singer-Songwriter Darrell Scott mines and cultivates the everyday moment\, taking the rote\, menial\, mundane\, and allowing it to be surreal\, ever poignant\, and candidly honest\, lilting\, blooming\, and resonating. The words he fosters allow us to make sense of the world\, what is at stake here\, and our place in it. And ultimately\, Darrell knows the sole truth of life is that love is all that matters\, that we don’t always get it right\, but that’s the instinctive and requisite circuitous allure of things\, why we forever chase it\, and why it is held sacred. \nDarrell Scott comes from a musical family with a father who had him smitten with guitars by the age of 4\, alongside a brother who played Jerry Reed style as well. From there\, things only ramped up with literature and poetry endeavors while a student at Tufts University\, along with playing his way through life. This would never change. \nAfter recently touring with Robert Plant and Zac Brown Band (2 years with each)\, and producing albums for Malcolm Holcombe and Guy Clark and being named “songwriter of the year” for both ASCAP and NSAI\, these days find him roaming his Tennessee wilderness acreage hiking along the small river\, creating delicious meals with food raised on his property\, and playing music. He often leads songwriting workshops to help people tell their own truths with their stories\, and is as busy as always writing\, producing\, performing\, and just plain fully immersing himself in life.

SUMMARY:Teddy Thompson
DESCRIPTION:The simplicity and emotional intensity of classic country – à la Hank Williams\, Patsy Cline and George Jones – has been a big part of Thompson’s own sound as an artist\, which the New York Times called “beautifully finessed” and NPR hailed as “the musical equivalent of an arrow to the heart.” \n“The goal was to do it in the way that country records I love – mostly from the ’60s – were made\,” says Thompson. “Everything was mapped out\, with charts and string parts in place. The musicians came in\, and we cut the songs the way they did back then. We just blazed through them.” \nThe results are riveting. Thompson’s rich\, honeyed voice responds beautifully to “A Picture Of Me (Without You)\,” “Cryin’ Time\,” I Fall To Pieces” and other songs of poetic despondence\, throwing off both sparks and tears without ever seeming showy. You can hear how he’s listened deeply to the genre’s masters\, absorbing the finer stylistic points of their influence. But rather than imitate\, he does something more nuanced and profound. He makes the material his own\, and makes the familiar sound new. “Many of these songs I thought were a bit beyond me when I was younger\, too big to tackle\,” Teddy says. “’A Picture Of Me\,’ ‘You Don’t Know Me\,’ big ballads like that\, which I think maybe take a little bit of maturity to do justice to. I was excited to sing those songs now\, after knowing them for decades. I think at least I’ve earned the chance to try.” \nHelping Thompson realize his vision for My Love Of Country was multi-instrumentalist producer David Mansfield\, whose resume includes touring with Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue\, scoring Oscar nominated films like The Apostle and years of high-profile session work with the likes of Johnny Cash\, Lucinda Williams and Dwight Yoakam. Recorded at Mansfield’s studio Hobo Sound in Hoboken\, NJ\, the album balances elegant\, wrap-around arrangements with one-take energy (“I’ve learned that I do my best in the first couple of takes\,” Thompson says). A star-studded group of harmony vocalists\, including Vince Gill\, Rodney Crowell and Aoife O’Donovan\, added final touches. \nThe latest stop – and eighth album – in a career that has carried on the legacy of his parents\, British folk-rock legends Richard and Linda Thompson\, and found him collaborating with such artists as Rufus Wainwright\, Rosanne Cash and Emmylou Harris\, My Love Of Country follows 2020’s Heartbreaker Please\, listed in the Top 10 Records of the Year by Britain’s Daily Mail and called “buoyant\, brilliant and soulful” by Billboard.

SUMMARY:Twisted Pine
DESCRIPTION:On October 18th\, Twisted Pine released its joyous third LP\, Love Your Mind\, on Signature Sounds Recordings. The title represents the quartet landing on a more expansive sound than ever\, after years of touring\, serious introspection\, bouts of self-doubt\, glorious bursts of creativity\, and many after-hour festival jam sessions and pickin’ till dawn. \nCo-produced by the band and longtime-collaborator Dan Cardinal at his studio Dimension Sound in Boston\, the record is loaded with experimental production\, fearless songwriting featuring input from each member\, finely-crafted collaborative arrangements\, playing that’s virtuosic and visceral. It’s a reflection of what the band listens to. It’s buoyant pop and delicate folk\, raging old-time energy\, and old-school r&b grooves. \nOn vinyl and on stage\, the sound of Twisted Pine is unmistakable\, exuberant\, daring. \nWhat started as a (semi-)traditional bluegrass band in the trenches of the storied folk\, bluegrass\, and Americana scene in Boston a decade ago has bloomed into an ensemble of players who shapeshift across genres. Even the expansive “progressive bluegrass” label doesn’t come close to capturing their musical scope. \nChris Sartori’s upright bass anchors everything with an undeniable\, articulate groove. Dan Bui’s mandolin is thick\, crisp\, and propulsive. Kathleen Parks’ fiddle and Anh Phung’s flute are at constant play\, often augmented with effects pedals for layered musical textures\, psychedelic sounds\, and wild solo trading\, somewhere in the territory between bluegrass and jazz. Out in front of the ensemble\, Parks’ lead vocals are an instrument unto herself: equal parts mystery\, power\, haunt\, and a search for the edges. And she’s surrounded on all sides by the voices of her bandmates\, who bring on whatever harmonies\, unities\, whistles\, and howls the night requires. \nIn a world that needs TLC more than ever\, Twisted Pine offers a night of exultant travels across genres\, across time\, to mountains\, cities\, roadhouses\, and back porches where songs bring tenderness\, love and relief. All in all\, this album and this tour bring the sound of a band that invites you to Love Your Mind.

King declared years ago\, “now that boy can play the guitar.” With more than three decades of touring and fifteen previous albums under his belt\, Cain\, once known as “one of the greatest guitarists you’ve never heard\,” is now celebrated by fans and fellow musicians alike as being among the blues’ most talented and exciting players. His original songs overflow with surprising hooks and feature razor-sharp lyrics that are moving and humorously insightful. With his powerful\, soul man’s voice and his inventive guitar work–inspired by Grant Green and Wes Montgomery as much as by B.B. King and Albert King—Cain’s talents are unparalleled in the blues world. Cain’s second Alligator Records album\, Good Intentions Gone Bad\, is another giant leap forward for the man Living Blues says is currently “turning out the best work of his career.”

SUMMARY:Popa Chubby
DESCRIPTION:Popa Chubby\, born Ted Horowitz\, has been hard rocking the blues in his fierce and soulful way for more than 30 years. Over the course of a career that dates back to 1994\, he has been a force of to be reckoned with on the guitar\, and his tempestuous\, soulful playing has never been more powerful. An imposing figure with a shaven head\, tattooed arms\, a goatee and a performance style he describes as “the Stooges meets Buddy Guy\, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters\, and Jimi Hendrix meets Robert Johnson\,” Popa Chubby is an endearing character who is one of the genre’s most popular figures.

SUMMARY:Enter The Haggis
DESCRIPTION:For over two decades\, Toronto’s Enter The Haggis has combined bagpipes and fiddles with a rock rhythm section to create a distinctively eclectic sound\, praised by The Boston Globe\, The Washington Post and Canada’s Globe and Mail. Their songs offer singalong melodies and deep\, meaningful lyrics which tell the stories of everyday hard working people\, often faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges. Signature songs like “One Last Drink”\, “Gasoline”\, “Down With The Ship” and “Lancaster Gate” have had millions of plays on streaming services\, appeared in Hollywood movies\, and have been performed and recorded by artists around the world. \nEnter The Haggis is clearly comfortable on the stage and develops an easy rapport with audiences\, sharing the stories behind their songs and laughing through tour anecdotes. Their show is exciting and dynamic\, featuring unpredictable and spontaneous moments. One song might feature Brian Buchanan and Rose Baldino trading fiery fiddle lines\, while the next song highlights Craig Downie taking a trumpet solo or ripping through a bagpipe reel. Sometimes during an encore\, the band will leave the stage entirely to perform acoustically standing on chairs in the audience. \nEnter The Haggis’ commitment to putting on a great show every single night has made them a favorite at festivals and performing arts centers across the US and Canada. As a result\, ETH shows have become an annual tradition on some of the most prestigious stages on the continent. The band has also brought hundreds of fans on eight tours of Ireland and two of Scotland\, forging deeper friendships with their supporters while exploring ancient landmarks and natural wonders across each country.
