Cooler nights are here, and what better way to warm up than contra dancing!
Eastham caller Pat Nash will be calling a variety of contra dances and mixers. Each dance will be taught with a thorough walk-through before the live music starts, with the intent of making all beginners feel comfortable.
Pat will be calling to the music of two of the accomplished musicians from the band Long Time Traveling, Alice Malone on fiddle and Jim Rohrer on guitar. They’ll perform traditional and contemporary acoustic music with roots in old-time, country, bluegrass, and Celtic music.
Contra dancing is the true traditional New England dance, brought here by the Irish, English and Scottish settlers. No fancy footwork needed – if you can walk, you can dance! All the dances are taught and called. The contra dance is family friendly and welcomes dancers of all levels.
If you’re new to contra dance or just want to brush up on your skills, come to the Contra Skills Workshop at 6:30 for a brief lesson.
No need to bring a partner; there are plenty of friendly people in this welcoming dance community.
Admission is $15, $10 for those under 30, $5 with student ID!
