WHAT: Outermost Contra Dance
WHEN: Friday, July 22, 2022 7:00 PM
WHERE: Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main Street, Wellfleet, MA
CALLER: Dereck Kalish
MUSICIANS: Clayton March and Bailey Ford
We’re celebrating the summer on Cape Cod! Come dance with us!
Dereck Kalish has been calling contra dances in New England since 2011 and going to local dances, mostly the Boston area, just about every week. He is well known for his calling and sound engineering at dances such as Pinewoods Camp, Tropical Dance Vacation St. Croix, Peterborough Snow Ball, Across The Lake, NEFFA, CDS to name a few. He’ll be accompanied by fiddler extraordinaire Clayton March and talented young pianist Bailey Ford. You may have seen Bailey performing recently at Celtic Roots. Clayton March leads a dual musical life as a clarinetist and an Irish fiddler. As a fiddler Clayton leads Irish sessions across the region and is a sought after teacher. His students much appreciate his knowledge of Irish tunes, ornaments, and styles. He is a founder of West Bend Music in Dennis Port where he maintains a large teaching studio
Contra dancing is the older cousin to the square dance. No fancy footwork needed – if you can walk, you can dance! All the dances are taught and called. If you’re new to contra dance, be sure to get in on the early dances for the basic moves. No need to bring a partner; there are plenty of friendly people in this welcoming dance community.
Outermost Contra is one of many contradances on the Cape, and was organized in December of 2014. The contra dance is family friendly and welcomes dancers of all levels.
Come to dance or come just to listen. All are welcome. Admission is $15, $10 for those under 30, $5 with student ID! Vaccination cards are required, and local mask protocols will be observed.
