We don’t get many stand-up comics on The Lowdown. Nor do we get many practicing clergy. So we searched far and wide to find somebody who is both…the world’s only practicing clergyman who actually does stand-up comedy…intentionally.
You may have caught Bob Alper’s act on The Early Show, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Showtime, the BBC, CNN, or Syrius/XM radio. You may have read one of his three books. You may even have been married or bar mitzvahed by him when he served as a rabbi in various congregations for fourteen years. If you’re looking to liven things up you may even want him to do your funeral.
Rabbi Robert “Bob” Alper is an author, stand-up comedian, and practicing clergy member. As an ordained rabbi, Alper served congregations for fourteen years and holds a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary. He often performs with Arab and Muslim comedy partners, primarily at colleges and universities. He is the author of three books and has produced two comedy CDs.
