Sergei -Wounded Ukranian Soldier

Sergei, a member of the Azov Regiment in Mariupol, was blinded and had his leg broken by an explosion during the battle over Mariupol. He received no treatment in a hospital in the Russian occupied territory but eventually was able to escape and his condition is now being evaluated at a hospital in Western Ukraine. In this interview with the hospital’s Chief, he describes as much as he can about his experience.

Dr. Stanislav Onyshchuk, Sergei’s doctor, speaks about Sergei’s medical and humanitarian condition and his chances for recovery. Onyshchuk is chief of a private surgical hospital in Western Ukraine, converted into the First Volunteer Surgical Hospital. With other volunteer doctors and medical professionals, the hospital treats war casualties and refugees at no cost, especially orthopedic patients.
