If you’re 701⁄2 or older, you have a unique opportunity to support our charity while potentially reducing your tax burden through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA).
What is a QCD?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows you to donate up to $100,000 per year directly from your IRA to a qualified charity, like ours. This donation can count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you are 73 or older, but it isn’t included in your taxable income.
Benefits of a QCD:
● Tax Advantages: Since the QCD is excluded from your taxable income, it can help lower your overall tax liability, particularly if you don’t itemize deductions.
● Fulfill Your RMD: If you are required to take RMDs, a QCD can satisfy this requirement without increasing your taxable income.
● Generous Giving: You can donate up to $100,000 annually, or $200,000 if both you and your spouse have IRAs, maximizing your philanthropic impact.
How to Make a QCD:
1. Contact Your IRA Administrator: Request that a distribution be made directly from your IRA to our charity. The check must be made payable to our organization to qualify as a QCD.
2. Inform Us: Let us know to expect your generous contribution so we can properly acknowledge your gift and provide the necessary documentation.
3. Consult Your Advisor: It’s always a good idea to discuss your plans with a financial or tax advisor to ensure that a QCD is the right choice for your situation.
