Kotoko Brass brings a vibrant, high-energy celebration of West African dance music to the stage, blending tradition, innovation, and global influences into one unforgettable performance.

Inspired by the traditional drum rhythms of Ghana, Kotoko Brass has created a unique, joyful, and improvisational sound described by The Boston Globe as “propulsive, infectious party music.” At the heart of the band are the drums, driving the music forward with syncopated African percussion polyrhythms layered alongside hard-hitting dance grooves. The horns fuse the spirit of New Orleans brass with the rich brass band traditions of West Africa, while guitar, keys, and bass channel classic African and Caribbean styles including highlife, afrobeat, and reggae.

A truly international ensemble, Kotoko Brass features musicians from Ghana, Antigua, Japan, and the United States, coming together in a powerful expression of unity through music. Their dynamic performances have taken them across the U.S., sharing the stage with artists such as Angélique Kidjo, Femi Kuti, and Vieux Farka Touré. On their debut tour of Ghana in 2023, they had the honor of performing for Ashanti King Nana Osei Tutu II.
