More than seventy years into a career that helped shape the conscience of a nation, Mavis carries with her one of the most recognizable voices in the world, warm, textured, and impossible to forget. From creating the soundtrack of the Civil Rights Movement to releasing new studio albums and returning year after year to stages like the Newport Folk Festival, she has never stopped leading the charge. At 85, she remains a living testament to the power of music, faith, and perseverance, and a reminder that, just when we need her most, Mavis Staples is still making music, and history.
