Barbara Blaisdell is a singer/songwriter in the band Sensible Shoes, playing gigs throughout New England. She has won the ASCAP Songwriting Award several times and has placed three original songs in feature films. She recently wrote music for the Vermont Public Television documentary “Irene: Ruin to Renewal,” a film about Tropical Storm Irene and its impact on Vermont. During her career as a veteran high school English and songwriting teacher, she created innovative school-wide programs combining literature and music. After studying songwriting with Rosanne Cash, Barbara designed and implemented programs in which students write, produce and perform original musicals. She also taught the songwriting program at Vermont Rock Camp.
Originally from New York City, Barbara lives in Vermont and Provincetown with her husband, guitarist Tim Utt. They are currently recording a new CD of original music in Wellfleet. Barbara was elected to the WOMR Board of Directors in December of 2019.
New volunteers are always welcome to begin the training process. No experience necessary. The Program Committee is now accepting proposals from trained volunteers to fill the following openings: the 3rd Sunday of each month from 9 to midnight, and 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. There’s also an opening for a bluegrass DJ on the 3rd and 5th Wednesday of each month from 5-8pm. The station also welcomes proposals from people who would like to produce a 30 minute spoken word program on local issues. Send your proposals to Matty or contact matty@womr.org with any questions or to set up an orientation interview.
