The Birdman

Norm Swanberg
“The Birdman”

I am a former Bostonian, growing up in Stoughton and am now a resident of San Diego, I have been a jazz radio host for over thirty years and based on that experience, I hope to share a wealth of musical knowledge along the way.

The moniker? I did rehab with birds of prey for 15 years and first got tagged with the nickname as nod to the great Celtics star when I first moved to LA and was surrounded by a sea of Lakers fans.

As your weekly host for “Jazz After Hours” from 3 am to 5:30 am on Saturday mornings I will offer up a sampling of my diverse and eclectic musical taste.

From Coltrane to Kamasi Washington,
from Miles to Christian Scott,
from Bill Evans to Robert Glasper,
from Sarah Vaughn to Kandace Springs
from Jim Hall to Pat Metheny
From Ron Carter to Eberhard Weber…..

I hope to bring to you the full spectrum and the best the genre has to offer.
As a weekly feature, I will also offer up a survey of the musical contributions of significant jazz artists born on that particular day in Jazz history.
